Our taxes are the way we combine resources to get things done that we can’t do as individuals: educate our children, build and maintain infrastructure, provide police and fire protection, keep our air and water clean, promote public health, and maintain a social safety net. Because our state revenue does not keep pace with state needs, Montana has been forced to make cuts to programs that serve seniors, individuals with disabilities, and struggling families and children. MBPC researches and advocates for sound tax policy that is both fair to taxpayers and also adequate enough to provide the government programs, services, and infrastructure essential to maintaining healthy communities and families.
