"House bill aims to simplify income taxes, trim tax credits," Billings Gazette, March 14, 2013.
Tara Veazey of the Montana Budget and Policy Center joined others in requesting a detailed analysis of the bill by the Revenue Department.
“There will be winners and losers,” she said. “It’s very easy for there to be substantial unintended consequences.”
Veazey said the center opposes a flat tax because it asks lower-income people to pay a higher portion of their income in taxes than it does higher-income people.
